Whatsoever, the time was running
and couple of weeks after, I was assigned by the management of the store to
work in fitting rooms. In this new area, I had to perform duties such as clean the floor, the desk, metal rack and to move
the clothes and to hang them, as well as I was responsible as operator to
receive the customer calls and transfer them through the different departments.
The worst part of this was that the Target’s Management in the store never
provided me any safety conditions to work during my pregnancy. I worked several hours without a chair,
I was picking up from the floor the mess of the clothes, in the fitting rooms
and they pushed me to keep everything clean including the floor and under the
counter desk. Honestly, I was suffering because I had problems during my high
risk pregnancy to stay stand up for over one hour because the pain killed my
lower back, my legs, my calves were destroyed, and I felt dizzy a lot of times.
The Department Manager really enjoyed it, and the Store Management always knew
about this situation, but they never showed any interest to stop the situation.
After this harsh environment in my workplace, I requested to one of my
coworkers to give me a small barstool located closer to the fitting rooms. I
used it to sit there and rest in short periods, but every day I was gaining
weight and my baby was growing too.
The ETL Softlines every time when she
walked around of Softlines Department and the Fitting Rooms, she approached
watches me and knobbing her head and your face showed angry expressions and
hate against me because I sat on the barstool. Also, as any pregnant woman…we
need to drink water…maybe more than anyone. In fact, I remembered on several
times when I bought a bottle of water due to the thirsty killed me every day, I
used to hide my water under the counter where anyone cannot see that, but the
Manager just waited the precise moment when I was attended a customer or when I
took my 15 minutes break time, to take my bottle of water and dumped to the
trash can. Why she did it? I never understand it, but I used to buy another
bottle of water to keep me hydrated for my baby.
